My name is Janet Rehfeldt and I have been knitting
and crocheting since I was 7 or 8 years old. I was very lucky to have been
taught by my grandmother to crochet. She rarely used patterns, so I was
taught to be creative in my crocheting from the very beginning. She had
a very hard time teaching me to knit, as she knit European style and I
just couldn't seem to get the hang of the tensioning. My mother was unable
to help, as she also knit in the European style. As I was desperate to
learn to knit along with crocheting, my mother stepped in and had a friend
that lived close to us teach me how to knit and purl in the American and
Continental method. I was ecstatic and everyone got slippers for years...
Knit and crochet have been my passions ever since. I've been designing
my own crochet and hand knit patterns for as long as I can remember. Eleven years ago, my husband
urged me to quit my job as an auditor for
a large insurance company and pursue my dream of producing my designs on
a full time basis. My fate was sealed when he purchased two knitting machines
for me.... and Knitted Threads was born.
Soon I had my mother involved and the two of us now work hand-in-hand
designing and producing in both knit and crochet. When we first began,
we were mainly into the production of knitted and crocheted goods.
However, we have changed our main concentration to the designing and
publication of patterns for both crochet and knit. Our name was also changed to Knitted Threads Designs, LLC.
Tips, hints and techniques can be found here that we find helpful to us and hopefully to you!
This page is dedicated to the memory of my Grandmother, Elsie Downs
and to my mother, Margarette Kear. Thank you Mom for working with me. We
make a great team. I would also like to thank Jamelle Lampkin of
Machine Knitting Emporium for all her help and support in my machine
knitting endeavors. Jamelle has and continues to be my friend and mentor...
And to her constant words to me of:"Janet, you can do
this!"
